How do I know my child needs individual lessons?
Virtually every student-athlete can benefit from the personal attention that FST can provide. Whether your child is currently confused/struggling with a particular aspect of the game, frustrated with lack of playing time, or simply wants to perform better during his/her games, FST will work with you to achieve your child's goals by evaluating exactly what is needed for improved performance.

How does the FST program work?
Our approach is simple.   We work with you to determine your needs and goals, and then match your child with one of our skilled and experienced instructors.   You and our trainer of choice will then communicate and schedule lessons that are convenient for you.

The program begins by recognizing the strengths/weaknesses and specific needs of each of our clients and then developing a specific workout that teaches and trains the student-athlete.   The goal is always to address immediate needs and to have a lasting impact on performance and confidence.

How often does the Student meet with the Trainer?
Typically, it is recommended that the trainer meet with the student-athlete once a week for an hour session.   This is optimal so that our teaching continues to be reinforced, but it also gives our clients time to digest what was learned. Frequency of sessions can vary depending on the individual client.

What if my child doesn't like the Trainer?
In our initial consultation, we will learn about your child's personality, learning style and specific skill deficiencies. We will use that information to select a trainer we believe will be a good match both in skills and personality. Our trainers make every effort to develop a positive, constructive relationship with the student, but if you do not think the tutor is a good match, FST will assign another trainer to work with your child.   All of our trainers will be using the same terminologies and core concepts to maintain a level of consistency across our services.

Who does FST serve?

  • FST currently works with basketball players of all ages, 4 th Grade through High School and College Prep.
  • FST currently services the Metro NY & San Diego, CA areas & will continue expanding.
  • FST Instructors currently provide lessons for the sport of basketball in all areas including: ball handling/passing, dribble moves, shooting mechanics, guard and post play, defensive tactics and an array of offensive maneuvers from any position.
  • We are currently expanding our services to other sports. Check our website for future developments.

Where does the Trainer meet with the Student?
For convenience, families generally prefer that we meet at or near the student's home.   If you prefer, or if the home is not conducive to getting the most out of the training sessions, we can also arrange for other convenient sites, such as a local park or school.

What are the qualifications of your trainers?
Our trainers are credentialed teachers, coaches, former accomplished players or former clients of Brian Huber who all have a passion for helping others reach their athletic potential.   FST checks all references, personally interviews every trainer, and ensures that they have the passion, skills, and patience to best serve our clients. Our trainers are selected not only for their experience and credentials but also for their ability to teach the fundamentals of the game and connect with young players.

Do you require long-term contracts?
No. At FST we believe that once a student's or family's goals are accomplished, our mission is complete. You won't be bound by a long-term contract to continue with our training service. We'll be here for you if you need us again! And if you do, we know you'll contact us.

What is the cost?
As we are currently expanding our staff across Long Island, hourly rates may vary depending on your training location, time of year, and whether or not we have to rent a gym.   Simply contact us for specific rate information.

Family/Group rates are absolutely available and preferred since working together with a sibling, friend or teammate can make the lesson more engaging and enjoyable for everyone.   We do ask that groups are kept to no more than 4 players at a time.   Any more would defeat the purpose of the service we are trying to provide you!    Simply contact us for group rate information.

When are your services offered?
We do offer year round service.   Our private training services are offered predominantly during warmer weather months (March - October).

During the colder months, we work more with teams, CYO programs, and larger groups in various indoor facilities.

Individual instruction during the winter months is primarily conducted at the Island Garden in West Hempstead, in addition to other gyms across Long Island.

What advantages does FST offer over other programs, camps and/or clinics?

Convenience - FST Instructors come to your home or another convenient location at a time of your choice without the need to add one more drop-off and pick-up.

Flexibility - FST Instructors work with the individual schedules of busy families. Training sessions can easily be coordinated with other extra-curricular activities.

Attention - FST Instructors do not believe that "one size fits all," and therefore will specifically create a lesson and work-out that will provide you with the focus and 100% attention that is needed to improve performance or eliminate any bad habits.    There are many camps/programs out there where athletes can get lost in the crowd and will therefore not improve whatsoever.

Attitude - FST instructors believe a positive attitude is everything.   We want to provide role models and high quality people to work, coach, mentor, and encourage your child to be the best they can be.   We feel there are better ways to motivate an individual rather than yelling at them.   We simply choose to motivate our clients through teaching them how to practice smart, have fun, and to be themselves.

What happens during the free consultation?
An experienced FST Consultant talks with you and your student-athlete to discuss the current challenges you are facing. We also address any other questions or concerns you may have regarding the training process.    We ultimately need a 5 - 10 minute conversation to help us understand your goals and to then give you a plan for how we will help get you there.   The free consultation may be completed by phone, or during a home visit if necessary.

Based on the information shared in this consultation, the FST Consultant assigns a Trainer who has the best match of experience, skills, and personality to achieve success with the individual student-athlete.

How soon can we begin tutoring sessions?
Immediately! Sessions are arranged at the earliest convenience of both student-athlete and trainer. Our service is available 7 days a week, so finding a time that meets the needs of your family is easy to do.
